Château Desmirail (different vintages)

Château Desmirail, 3rd Grand Cru Classé in 1855, is the product of the exceptional terroir of the Margaux appellation, which it perfectly illustrates through its elegance and finesse.
Its modern winemaking techniques, together with a respect for tradition, make this a wine that is both enjoyable in its youth and a great wine for ageing.
Château Desmirail is the result of a strict selection process and careful ageing.

Vintage 2002 :
BLEND : Cabernet Sauvignon 60% and Merlot 40%
DEGREE : 12,5%

Deep garnet-red colour. Deep, fine nose with notes of blackcurrant and roasted coffee. Fleshy, polished, well-structured palate. The tannins are well enveloped and bring out the best in the fruit. A successful vintage.

Vintage 2004 :
BLEND : Cabernet Sauvignon 61% and Merlot 39%

Decanter (2011) : 16.25 – 3 stars  
Attractive fragrant red fruit, herbs, leaf, herbaceous and floral scent. Quich rich, juicy and forward showing Margaux elegance and complexity already. 

Vintage 2006 :
BLEND : Cabernet Sauvignon 50% and Merlot 50%
DEGREE : 13%

A dense colour. Elegant rose petal nose. Even more convincing on the palate, with a certain liveliness and plenty of fruit. A well-constructed wine that will appeal in the future.

Vintage 2007 :
BLEND : Cabernet Sauvignon 40% and Merlot 60%
DEGREE : 12,5%
Decanter – 2008 : 16.5 – 5 stars  
Fine purple red, discreet with a delicate touch of plum. Fragrant Cabernet, fine extraction. Good Margaux with elegance, well presented and very classic. Could have more complexity.

Vintage 2009 :
BLEND : Cabernet Sauvignon 70% and Merlot 30%
DEGREE : 13%

Deep purple colour. Deep, elegant nose, combining red fruit and fine oak. Full-bodied, mellow attack, fine texture, evolving into a livelier, warmer wine with a more pronounced oaky presence.

Concentrated garnet-red colour. Elegant nose of roasted coffee and oak, supported by ripe fruit. Very supple on the palate, with polished tannins. Balanced aromas of oak and fruit harmonise and are gradually released. Serrated on the palate. A very reliable choice.

BLEND : Cabernet Sauvignon 46% and Merlot 54%

Attractive dark colour with bright red highlights. Very clear nose of ripe red fruit, supported by a delicate woodiness. Lovely body on the palate, with smooth, silky tannins. The aromatic expression combines intensity, delicacy and length. A top-class 2012.

BLEND : Cabernet Sauvignon 57%, Merlot 38% and Petit Verdot 5%

A red with chocolate and berry character plus some almonds and spices. Full-bodied, juicy, fruity and long on the finish.

Xavier Lacombe – XL VINS – October 2023 : 94 
Beautiful, brilliant color, displaying a range of reds from ruby to garnet, with brick-red dominating. The first nose is lulled by elegant notes of ageing, notably roasted hazelnuts and cedar. Red fruits tend to develop rapidly. Aeration evens things out between these two worlds, with some fine notes of undergrowth also developing, displaying freshness, relief and complexity. The palate is full-bodied and lively, playing on the roundness of fleshy, very ripe red fruit. The tannins are elegant, fresh and precise, beginning to display a refined grain, refined by the years.
